Frequently Asked Questions

So can I hear some samples of Soundshed's productions?

The proof is in the listening, so if you want to hear some recent productions, go to the top of the Song Production Home page

where you can listen to some samples of both our Studio and ONLINE Song Productions.

Who owns the rights to my songs?

You always keep full rights to your song.
You wrote it, you own it!
If you choose to co-write your song with us, we'll discuss a suitable copyright percentage, so you'll know your rights from the very start

What is ONLINE Song Production about?

Go to the ONLINE Song Production page to find out all the details about how you can have your song professionally produced without even being in the studio

Recording studios make me nervous?

We'll make you feel at ease. Our studio is relaxed and friendly and we have created a highly creative environment for you
to enjoy the process of recording your music
. People continually comment on how comfortable they feel
performing and making creative decisions in our studio

Soundshed Music a relaxed friendly atmosphere
Above: Soundshed Music's Live room -
Gretsch Drum kit; Neumann, AKG, Sennheiser, Rode mics etc;
Gibson, Fender, Martin guitars, dobro, Nashville tuned guitar, uke, mandolin, Fender amps,
- all included in your production

I don't have recording studio experience?

Easy! Our specialty is adding all the instruments your song needs i.e. drums, bass, guitar and professional, session-singer vocals. There's no pressure on you to play like a seasoned studio-pro.
And the instruments and vocals we add
are included in the $660

But I don't want to sing my songs; I'm a songwriter, not a singer?

Stewart and Snez are experienced session singers who can do your lead vocal for you - all included in the hourly rate or Package deal.
And if you have a need for a particluar singer style, we have a team of top session singers we can suggest for your song
for a very reasonable extra cost

I've heard that often the budget can get out of hand - what are the hidden costs etc?

We have a simple package deal of $660 per song (songs up to 4 1/2 minutes long). Or $6000 for ten songs. Although experience has shown that using our hourly rate $88 per hour (AUD) is usually cheaper than the package deal rates - because Stewart is fast at getting your ideas produced, which results in cheaper overall sessions for you
These Rates include song pre-production, producing, recording drums, bass guitar, guitars, percussion, backing vocals, piano & keyboards and mixing of your song
The only extra cost could be if you want to bring in your own musicians or singers

What if I get home and I don't like the mix?

It's common that artists can get home and have a 'change of heart' about something in the mix.
If you do want some changes to the mix within the first five days, we can do that for no extra charge

How long do you keep my recordings before you erase them?

We keep all your recordings archived here forever , so if you ever want to remix or add something, they will always be here

The Blue Mountains is an overnight stay from where I live !

If you are recording two or more songs at a time, we have a Guest Room which you are very welcome to use at no extra charge.
We don't supply food, but hey! the restaurants and cafes around here are wonderful :)

What's the most important part of the Song Recording Process?

Whatever your opinion about the quality of music these days, it is clear that the quality needed for even song demos today is very high, even demos can be good enough quality to be released as they are

But the song and it's structure are more important than any clever recording techniques, so even before we start recording, we are always keen make suggestions to your song or it's structure to increase it's emotional impact

The song and the vocal are the most critical parts of a song and everything else we record must complement them and not get in their way - don't overproduce your song!

If you're aiming to acheive some industry recognition, then even a demo needs to be modern and contemporary enough to interest the music industry. One way to do that is to pick a current artist who would suit the song's style and sentiments and aim your song at that style. We can help with suggestions of a style that might suit your music, if you like

But it's important to keep in mind that being different and unque is what will make your songs stand
out

I already have someone in mind to record the vocals on my song

If you already have someone in mind to sing the lead vocals on your finished recording, we can do that too. Because we can't guarantee the speed and experience of your singer, in the Package Deals we allow one free hour to record their vocal and one free hour for any backing vocals. Any further studio time will be charged at $88 per hour
